                                                           Research Destiny
Research and reality are two similar subjects that can be either truthful or deceiving. I am an only child and looked at some birth research that I related to as well as some research that I did not relate to.
Firstly, one of the pieces of research stated that only children “Get along well with those older or younger (but not the same age)”. Throughout my life I have gotten along fine with my peers as well those younger than me. For example, one of my cousins has been my closest companion since birth, and we are only two months apart in age. Also, I get along very well with my younger cousins but not so much with the older ones. It just depends on the experiences you share and how well your personalities click.
Second, is the part where the research is wrong (well at least for many other students and I). Apparently, only children are “cold-blooded”. I don’t know too many only children, but the ones that I do know certainly aren’t cold-blooded. I know that I can sometimes be a little mean, but to be cold-blooded is an entire new level of evil. Many other only children and I aren’t cold-blooded. To be cold-blooded is to have no sympathy, mercy, and not be affected by emotions which I find to be the opposite. Being an only child you are able to build a strong bond and open communication with your parents and family. Since there is no sibling competition, parents are able to give more one on one time which leads to a greater understanding of the world and mannerisms. Having these skills makes it easier to relate or empathize with others. My parents have always supported me and give me their undivided attention and I in return try to offer the same to others.
The last piece of research that I found the most relatable to was that only children are “critical of self and others”. This is probably a trait found in most only children. When it comes to myself, I’m extremely critical of myself as well as others. For example, whenever I get like an 8 out 10 on a little quiz, I freak out because it’s considered a B. Also, when others fail to do things correctly, it bothers me because it usually ends up hurting me (especially when it’s a team effort). I try to give a 100% most of the time and I expect others to do the same or at least try.
This Birth Order Research conducted definitely related to numerous only children with a few traits that didn’t quite relate. In conclusion I found that about 80% of traits found in the research were relatable to me, but I didn’t find myself quite associated with the other 20%.

BOR Research and Evidence T-Chart

BOR Research and Evidence T-Chart

What the research says

Evidence showing accuracy or Inaccuracy

Gets along well with those older or younger (but not the same age).

I think that actually get along well with my own age group and younger kids, but not older. I just find it easier to talk to kids my own age and make friendships.

Cold-Blooded.

Wow, I don’t know why only children would be cold-blooded. Think about it, they get almost anything they want, and gets lots of attention from their family. I don’t think that I’m cold-blooded and I don’t know any other only-childs who are.

May procrastinate to relieve burden of perfectionism.

I do consider myself myself to be a perfectionist, and yes I do procrastinate sometimes. However, I’m getting better at being on top of things and getting more organized all around.

Critical of self and others.

This is a very true statement. I’m extremely critical of myself and others. For example, whenever I get like an 8 out of 10 on a little quiz, I freak out because it’s considered a B. Also, when others fail to do things correctly, it bothers me because it usually ends up hurting me especially when it’s a team effort.

These individuals go beyond the boundaries of a given field or create new boundaries.

i’m not really sure if I can answer this one fully yet since I’m still in high school, but I think that I can have a successful future. I want to do something that no one has ever done or completed and leave a legacy for people to remember me by.

REFLECTIONS ON WEEK 1

1. I don't think that there will be any factors affecting my participation or experience in this class. I have all the needed technology, I have a supportive family, Wi-Fi connection, and transportation to school everyday. As far as factors go, I think I'm good.

2.A really good learning experience that has changed me is going on field trips in Avid to learn about colleges. In 8th grade, my Avid class and I went on an overnight fieldtrip to go see San Jose Sate and Stanford University. I remember getting to see how to college life was like and I thought it was pretty cool. Just getting to see these 2 colleges motivates me everyday to do my best in school so I can get accepted into one of these great colleges.

3. I'm not sure what this class has to offer, so I'm not really sure of what to be excited about. However, I am a little bit concerned of how much homework we may get for this class giving that I already spend around 3 hours on other homework alone. Besides that, I think that everything else will turn out fine. I think that this class will teach me how to be a better writer as well as a better public speaker.

Breathing is necessary, so is music. Since I was a child, I've always loved music. Not listening to music, but actually playing it. Most people have a way of disconnecting from the world, and this is mind. I've been a band geek since I was in fourth grade and I've been playing piano for about 3 years now. Playing with the drumline is an awesome experience and I think a lot of people judge people who are in band. Living without music would be pretty hard for me, just because that's what a good chunk of my life revolves around. I hope everyone enjoyed two chains on the piano.
